For decades, Professor Qian has been devoting herself to developing high efficient and low cost techniques for wastewater treatment. She has achieved great progress in her research, including biodegradability of refractory organics and the mechanism, processes and technologies for controlling refractory organics. Besides, she has been in charge of many national research projects for which she has obtained numerous awards. In recent years, she has been promoting sustainable development strategy and policies for clean production, material and energy conservation, and sustainable water resources management in China, including legislation and model demonstrations. |

She has been acting as member of the Executive Board of the ICSU (International Council for Sciences) from 1996-2002, the Vice President of WFEO (World Federation of Engineering Organizations) from 1997-2005 and was invited to give lectures in universities in USA, UK, The Netherlands and Hong Kong etc. She is now the Vice Chairperson of the Committee of Environment and Resources Protection, the National People’s Congress of China and a member of the Board of Directors of the World Resources Institute. |
