2019

Introduction

The Department of Civil Engineering at HKU has a world-class reputation for leading research and teaching in civil engineering and has nurtured high-calibre leaders for the community and the engineering profession. The Department ranked 11th in the world in civil engineering according to the QS University Subject Rankings 2018. Today, the Department has 24 teaching staff, over 400 undergraduate, 300 taught postgraduate and 100 research postgraduate (RPg) students, and admits 25 or more RPg students each year.

The CCFS Scheme

The scheme allows high calibre students who are seriously considering to join our Department as Ph.D. students to visit and conduct research in summer 2019 for a period of about 2.5 weeks.  Priorities will be given to the top students who would be strong candidates competing for the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship (HKPF) (https://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs) in the upcoming 2020 admission. The visit will allow the students to see our learning environment and get to know their potential supervisors and future research work.

Details of the Scheme

  • Up to 12 scholarships are available in summer 2019;
  • The Scholars will visit the Department within the period from 15 to 31 July 2019 to conduct research under individual supervisors;
  • A Scholarship of HK$3,500 will be awarded;
  • Free accommodation will be provided in a student hall of residence; and
  • Seminars, discussion sessions and other activities also will be arranged for the Scholars.
