JWDA Building 駿地樓

In April 2015, Project Mingde received a request from Daping Village Primary School in Rongshui County of Guangxi Province to carry out a feasibility study for improving its learning and teaching environment.

The school had a four-storey teaching block, a two-storey student dormitory, a toilet, a canteen, and an abandoned old kitchen which was served as storage of fire woods, with 9 teachers and 230 pre-school nursery and P1 to P3 students. As many of them were from nearby villages which could be a few kilometers away from the school, there was a strong demand for accommodation. The teachers occupied part of the student dormitory for their temporary living space during teaching weeks. The school could only accommodate 80 students which was insufficient to cater for all demands. As such, a classroom in the teaching block was used as the boys’ dormitory without any water supply and sanitation facilities. To address the accommodation needs of both the teachers and students, Project Mingde helped demolish the old kitchen and build a new three-storey teacher quarters. The construction work was commenced in October 2016, and completed in September 2017. The building was named as JWDA Building and a handover ceremony was held on 1 October 2017 with the local government officials, our donor and architects from Shanghai, our local contractor, the school principal, teachers, students and their parents, Project Mingde members from various faculties and departments attended.

Now 10 teachers have moved in the new teacher quarters, and the existing student dormitory can accommodate 40 more students. Their living condition has been improved. The classroom used to be the boys’ dormitory will be converted into a multimedia room for teaching purpose in the next stage.
