Invitation

As Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 6th International Symposium on Environmental Anaerobic Technologies, I take great pleasure in inviting you to attend the Symposium to be held in Hong Kong SAR, China, on November 12-13, 2009. The University of Hong Kong has identified Sustainable Water Environment as one of its strategic research themes. Our goal is to promote interdisciplinary research, as well as interactions among academics, government, and the private sector. To ensure wide participation and dissemination of information, registration for this Symposium will be free of charge.

Energy saving, sludge reduction, and production of biofuel are three major intrinsic advantages of anaerobic processes over the more conventional aerobic processes. These intrinsic advantages are evidenced by the fact that several thousands of full-scale facilities have been installed worldwide in the past two decades. These advantages also make anaerobic process the favored treatment technology for sustainable environment for the years to come.

This Symposium has invited 19 renown experts from 11 countries and regions to share with participants the experiences of full-scale applications worldwide and information related to the new development of this technology, including pretreatment of cellulosic wastes, biohydrogen production, modeling, two-stage process, molecular technique and granulation. The Keynote speech will be delivered by Professor Gatze Lettinga, laureate of the Tyler Prize (2007) and Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize (2009). The program is shown in the next page.

We look forward to seeing you at The University of Hong Kong.

Professor Herbert Han-Ping Fang
Chairman of the Organizing Committee
