CIDECT President's Student Awards:

CIDECT has decided to present awards to students at each International Symposium on Tubular Structures (ISTS), for outstanding work in the field of tubular structures. To qualify, the work submitted by a student must have been performed during the course of a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme (i.e. not as part of a Doctoral degree programme). Moreover, the student should have completed the applicable degree programme within the two years preceeding the ISTS.

CIDECT will present awards in two categories:

The first is for student or graduate engineers who can present research in which they have been involved, that has - as its aim - the extension of knowledge of the capabilities and functionality of structural hollow sections.

The second is for student or graduate structural engineers or architects who have used structural hollow sections in a new or creative way in the (architectural) design of any structure. This can be either a structure commissioned by a client or a design study, but in all cases the structural effectiveness of the design should be validated.

From the nominated students, and on the basis of their extended Abstracts submitted, three in each category will be invited to write complete papers, attend the Symposium and make an oral presentation of their projects at a special session during the Symposium. The winners, for each of the two categories, will be announced during the Symposium and each presented with a trophy by a CIDECT official. Each of the runners-up will similarly be presented with certificates. All travelling and accommodation expenses for the six nominated students who attend the Symposium will be paid by CIDECT.

Application Procedure

All applications for these awards should be made to CIDECT. Students are invited to supply an abstract on two (A4 or "letter size") pages including photographs and figures (for the Design Award up to 5 pages), plus a half page evaluation from their university professor or company principal. All the selected proposals will be evaluated by a panel made up of the CIDECT President, Vice President, the Chair of the Technical Commission and Chair of the Promotion Committee, plus the ISTS 13 Chairs of the Local Organising Committee and the International Programme Committee. This judging panel will select 3 nominated projects as a maximum in each category. The winning project in each category will be announced at the International Symposium on Tubular Structures, where the winners will be presented with their trophies and the runners up with their certificates. Attention
Abstracts and papers should be submitted directly to CIDECT.
