Mohan Kumaraswamy, now an Honorary Professor at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), was on the full time staff of the Dept. of Civil Engineering, HKU from 1992 to June 2013. Previously, he worked on designs, construction and construction management in Sri Lanka and Nigeria, after his B.Eng. (Civil) from Sri Lanka, and before his M.Sc. in Construction Management from Loughborough University, UK from where he also received his PhD in 1991. After his MSc, he was a Construction Manager and then a Director of the first construction project management company in Sri Lanka, and led many innovative projects and internationally funded consultancies.

He was awarded a DSc by Loughborough University, UK in Feb. 2013, for published work constituting a sustained, substantial and original contribution to knowledge. His R&D interests cover many critical areas in construction project management, infrastructure asset management and construction industry development. He is active in many international research groups, including as Joint Co-ordinator of the international Working Commission W122 on Public Private Partnerships of the CIB - International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction.

He has published widely himself, is on many Editorial Boards of reputed international journals in construction engineering and management and is Editor-in-Chief of the journal of ‘Built Environment Project and Asset Management’ (BEPAM) which he launched in 2011 www.emeraldinsight.com/bepam.htm. Also, in 2020, he launched, as Editor-in-Chief, the Book Series on ‘Domain-Specific Bodies of Knowledge in Project Management' https://www.worldscientific.com/series/dsbkpm.

Mohan has been active in professional bodies, including the HKIE, where he was Chairman of the Civil Division in 1997-98, the Chartered Institute of Building, where he was the Sri Lanka representative until 1992, and later a Vice Chairman of CIOB Hong Kong in 1996-97. He contributed to industry development bodies such as the Construction Industry Council, and was President of the Asian Construction Management Association from 1999-2002. Also, he is the ‘Founding Director’ of the Centre for Infrastructure & Construction Industry Development (CICID) in Hong Kong, having been its first Executive Director (from 2002 to June 2013). He was also active in Committees of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka before 1992 and was on its Accreditation Board from 2014-2022.
