9 Apr 2019 Project Mingde Student Association--Technical Visit to CITAC The technical visit to CITAC was successfully held on 30 March 2019. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Construction Industry Council for their great support to this event. Members can learn more about the latest technologies and products in the construction industry from this visit. Some of the examples are facial recognition gate system, new type of waterproofing coating and cloud-based solution for project lifecycle management. 9 April 2018 Technical Visit - Tseung Kwan O Landfill Restoration Stage II/III Technical visit to Tseung Kwan O Landfill Restoration Stage II/III was held on 7 April 2018 with 11 members participated. Tseung Kwan O Landfill Stage II/III was commissioned in 1988 and closed in 1994. Total waste received during operation time is 12.6 million tonnes. The restoration works started in 1997 and completed in 1999. The visit focuses on restoration facilities, leachate and landfill gas management. Ir MH Law, Contract Manager of TKO landfill restoration from SITA Waste Services Ltd (SITA), welcomed and introduced the restoration systems to our members. Members are inspired by the precise and concise explain on extensive slope stabilisation, high integrity capping system, gas and leachate collection systems, secure monitoring system and innovative development on restored landfill. Spider slope mower and goats for grass cutting are also introduced during the visit. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ir Law for his detailed and clear explanations concerning the restored landfills throughout the visit. 20 Mar 2017 Report on Alumni Talk on Geotechnical Engineering – Ir Jeannie LEUNG Cheuk-wa Project Mingde had invited alumni, Ir Jeannie Leung Cheuk-wah, the Geotechnical Engineer from the Slope Safety Division of the Geotechnical Engineering Office in CEDD, to be the guest speaker on 17th March, 2017 and to share with participants her precious experience as a geotechnical engineer. Having ample practical experience in slope and foundation designs, Ir Leung is currently undertaking various geotechnical designs regarding works for other government departments. Her sharing would undoubtedly be useful for students to deepen their understanding regarding the technical issues and future development in the geotechnical engineering field. In the talk, Ir. Leung shared with participants her valuable experience and career advice so that student could have better planning for future career. 20 July 2015 Updates on Comms Activities Preparation of booklets of Zhengdong Jie Kindergarten, Yingdong Footbridge and Dabao project Upon the completion of the Yingdong Footbridge, a group of alumni is preparing a booklet to record their memories of this project. They include LIN Weidong, YIP Ka Hei, CHEN Yu, WU Jiajie, ZHENG Junwen and HU Tianyu. The first draft has already been finished in June 2014. The typesetting and design work was done by the donor of this project, Shanghai JWDA Design Co. Ltd. and the final version has just been completed and it is expected to be published in Jul 2015. Another group of alumni is working on a booklet on the Zhengdong Jie Kindergarten, and the first draft has been finished in January 2015. The core members include CHOW Kai Hang, FUNG Ching Cheung, WONG Sin Yan, CHAN Ho Yin Howard, CHONG Tak Chai, WONG Wai lam and a current Year 2 student, LU Yulin. We are now finding current students for the typesetting and design work. The booklet is expected to be published in 2016. A taskforce has also been set up to prepare the booklet for the Dabao project. The core taskforce members are PUNG Chun Nok and KWOK Ka Ki Kristie. We are now recruiting student and graduate members to develop the booklet. Members who are interested in helping the design work of Zhengdong booklet or the preparation of Dabao booklet can contact the Communications Subcommittee at mingde.comms@gmail.com. community in Rongshui, Guangxi, was completed. A group of passionate alumni and

31 March 2014 2014 Project Mingde Exhibition and Sharing - Report The Exhibition was held from 20th to 22nd March, 2014 and it was a huge success. People from all walks of life visited our booth showed better understanding of how Project Mingde benefits the society. It is interesting to mention that even the professor from Oxford came to our exhibition too! I am glad to know that the booklet “Dabao Journey” published by our project’s architect will be put in the library in the University of Oxford ... (more details)

6 January 2014 2014 Project Mingde Exhibition and Sharing To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Project Mingde and to attract more interested parties to join us, an exhibition displaying the past and present of Project Mingde will be organized in the covered area outside the Main Library at HKU from 20th to 22nd March 2014 and a seminar will be held at Wang Gungwu Theatre, Graduate House, HKU on 27th March 2014, 6:30 ‐ 7:30pm. A taskforce of 5 current students has been set up and they are Samson Pung (the Chairperson), Stone Chan, Eddie Chui, Candy Lam and Ben So. 30 October 2013 Project Mingde 10th Anniversary Celebration Trip – Taskforce It has been nearly 10 years since the first building of Project Mingde, Mingde Building, was constructed. In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Project Mingde, a trip to Guangxi will be organized from 17th to 20th October 2014. A taskforce of 10 members has been set up and the first meeting was held in September 2013. The core members are all alumni who were active in Project Mingde before and they are Joe Chan, Stanley Chan, Albert Chong, Melody Deng, Felicia Ding, Kornel Lam, Demi Sun, Sharon Wong and together with Dr. Ada Law and the most honorary and respected Dr. D.J. Guo. The taskforce is now planning the itinerary and activities to be carried out at Mingde Building, if you have any suggestions and ideas, please feel free to contact us at mingde2004@gmail.com. 24 May 2013 It was our pleasure to have invited Professor S.Y Sun, who offered the Latin name “Virtus et Ingenium” for Project Mingde, and Dr. K.S. Louie, the former Secretary of Lee Hysan Foundation, for a lunch at HKU on 23 May 2013 to show our appreciation to their support to Project Mingde. We had a campus tour to the new HKU Centennial Campus before the lunch and they were amazed at the new development at HKU. We all had a great time and we look forward to meeting Professor Sun and Dr. Louie again!
